during a cleanup of the laboratory, one compound synthesized 2 years earlier had crystallized and was submitted for testing to L.O. Randall, a pharmacologist. Shortly thereafter, Randall reported that this compound was hypnotic and sedative and had antistrychnine effects similar to those of meprobamate. The compound was named chlordiazepoxide and marketed as Librium in 1960,
